I am not a user of Tumblr nor am I a cat lady, but when I stumbled upon this article I thought to myself, why not share something pleasant with everyone.
Once again our Internet crazed society found something to obsess about, either if it’s a catchy song like ” Gangham Style,” popular dance like ” The Harlem Shake”, now there is a new tumblr alert and trend, this is where cats are compared as lookalikes to male models. Des Hommes et des Chatons, http://deshommesetdeschatons.tumblr.com/.
Check it out.
Have ever heard the saying that the internet is made up of cats? It’s funny how many websites feature cat photos, cat videos, cat animated GIFs. An interesting question is why cats? Why are they so prevalent on the web? And how have memes about cats propagated on the web? How have they evolved?
The concept of memes is something that can be traced back to Richard Dawkins, one of the most famous scholars of biology and evolution. He actually coined the term “meme” to describe those tiny, discrete pieces of information that get transmitted and that, taken as whole, help make up what we might call “culture.”
If you’ve never been to the Know Your Meme website, it’s a fun take on the idea that we should study the history of silly internet memes. A personal favorite meme of mine is Nyan Cat, which you can read all about on the Know Your Meme site.
This reminds me of Lolcat (http://www.lolcats.com/) where people post funny cat photos with comments. I also start to wonder why always cats ? Well, I don’t have an answer for that question, but I think these internet memes show the one powerful aspects of internet. Anyone can get toghther a lot easier for any purposes. It would be impossible to gather people who take silly photos of their cats 10 years ago.
Well, first of all, I find this post hysterical. Thank you for actually putting a smile on my face! This article basically sums up our generation: chasing popular trends in technology and social networking has become a normal part of our lives. I know when a hashtag becomes popular on Twitter, everyone starts thinking of tweets to relate to that hashtag, when a video trend comes out, everyone starts making those videos and when a picture theme on Instagram is introduced, we start posting pictures to fit that theme. Tumblr, Pinterest and Buzzfeed are actually gaining popularity at the moment by attracting users with fun and funny posts like these.
