Syllabus Comments and Questions (30-45 min)
First, find the syllabus. Where is it?
Second, I am going to put you into groups.
Third, you are going to introduce yourself to one another: name, major or possible major, what you think the worst fruit is.
Fourth, your group with carefully read your section(s) and you are going to come up with 1-2 comments or questions about your part of the syllabus.
We will go around and I will talk about some important elements of each section and each group will contribute their comments and questions. And we will determine, definitively, what the worst fruit is.
Syllabus groups:
- Group 1, Course Description
- Group 2, Learning Goals
- Group 3, Textbook and Platforms
- Group 4, Assignments
- Group 5, Revision + Policies on pages 9 to 11
- Group 6, Academic Integrity
- Group 7, AI policy
- Group 8, policies after AI policy through end of syllabus
First-Day Writing (30 minutes)
Address the following three items in one, cohesive essay:
- What’s changed since September 2024 for you? What is different? Think back to a few months ago and compare it to what you are thinking and feeling, now, about college and life beyond college. How have your dreams shifted? How has your outlook on the world shifted, whatever that might mean to you?
- What hasn’t changed? What has stayed true for you that is helping guide you toward your goals and dreams?
- Finally, our class will talk a lot about school. The podcast we will listen to is about school in NYC. Tell me a little bit about your perspective on how school has helped (and/or hurt) your ability to become the person you want to become.
