Independent Work on Research Project (45 min)
Let’s work on your research projects. Remember, they are due Friday (April 4) by 11:59pm.
While doing this work, take out your journals so I can give you credit for working on them this week.
If working on the draft, remember to review all of these resources you have!:
- essentially all lesson plans in March (e.g., help with paraphrasing/quoting/citation, linking claims to evidence, making arguments based on secondary research, integrating primary research into your writing)
- MLA formatting guidelines like those found here
- sample student drafts on Brightspace (see “Student Writing” under “Visual Table of Contents Widget”)
- peer review letter(s) for your first research project draft from a classmate
- 2-5 min audio essay comments on Brightspace about your research project from classmate
- Prof. Libertz’s comments on your first research project draft
If you are focusing more on your 1-minute preview of your research project, review these resources for audio editing:
Partner up with someone. Explain what you are working and your goal for the next 30-40 min. When we are done, you will report on what you did and your goal for the next time you work on this project.
Podcast Work (40 min)
Producers, take charge on finalizing:
- Roster for podcast: who is working on what podcast and what their role is
- Team charter: how you all are gonna work together
- Task schedule draft: what you are gonna do and by when (e.g., drafts of scripts, fact-checking claims in script, having “tone” meetings with script writers to make sure consistency across episodes, accumulation of research of secondary sources to help with script, conduct interviews, narrate script, get all audio files to audio editor)
To help, remember information about podcast assignment here: https://blogs.baruch.cuny.edu/libertzeng2150sp25/wp-content/blogs.dir/11173/files/2025/03/Podcast-Guidelines.pdf
Also review the article by Eric Detweiler and the work we did on genre/mode/medium in regard to podcasts on this day.
In addition to finalizing these documents due today, you must make sure all members are AWARE of what is in these documents. You must hold meetings today and take notes on what you are doing with your class time today.
Examples of things to consider today: script writer and what they need help with for research, audio editor working with script writer for the kinds of audio effects that would be fun, see script writing examples/tips on “Classwork Information,” scheduling interviews.
Podcast Post 2 (5 min)
Michelle, Erica, Pedro, Shirley, Ammar, Yoon, and Ziyan will write Podcast Post 2. The rest of you will comment. Here are the instructions:
Here again is the schedule of posts. When it is your turn to post, you write at least 250 words in response to the prompt for that Podcast Post by 12pm the day before class (e.g., if the next class is Wednesday then the podcast post is due 12pm on the day before, which would be Tuesday). If it is NOT your turn to do a podcast post, you must post a comment in response to one of the Podcast Post authors by class time. Comments must be at least 50 words. Due April 4 by 12pm for posters; due April 7 by 9:55am for commenters.
Prompt for Authors of Posts: Give us an update on what you are working on for the podcast.By the time you submit this post, we would have been working on this podcast, officially, for one week. So, what have you been doing? What is your role and what have you done in your capacity for that role so far? If you haven’t done much yet, why? (it is okay! No judgment). Any new ideas you or your group has had lately? Anything you are excited about?Since we all met together in class, what new ideas have you had or that your group has had (e.g., during your team meeting, as you wrote private journal entry for Wednesday, as you just sort of thought about the podcast while on a train commuting or wherever)? What are you excited about? What do you want to bring up that you think the whole class should think about? Why? In addition, but optionally: any questions you have for your group? Concerns? Stuck on something? Anything else? Write at least 250 words. Due April 4 by noon.
Directions for Commenters: Focus on one of your classmates’ posts and talk about your reaction to their ideas and questions. Write at least 50 words. Due April 7 by 9:55am.
Next Time (5 min)
-By tonight, I need the producers to send me: team charter (can be for whole podcast rather than episode groups), roster (same), and task schedule (need this for each episode group)
-On Friday, April 4 by 11:59pm, research project revision + 1-minute audio preview is due. If using AI, make sure you fill out the survey.
-For anyone doing Podcast Post 2, you need to be finished by Friday, April 4 by noon. Commenters need to comment by Monday, April 7 at class time.
