Plan for Rest of Semester (15-20 min)

This is what we have left:

  • Today and an asynchronous day on Wednesday, April 9
  • April 14-18 is spring break
  • Monday, April 21 and Wednesday April 23
  • Monday, April 28 and Wednesday, April 30
  • Monday, May 5 and Wednesday, May 7
  • Monday, May 12 and Wednesday, May 14

Key dates:

  • Podcast is completed by May 5
  • Reaction post for listening to podcast by May 7
  • Podcast contribution narrative by May 14
  • Final reflection by May 21

Other considerations

  • Also consider minor things like: Podcast Post 3 and 4 (for authors and for commenters), weekly private writing
  • Also consider if you are going to do grade boosts (review grading contract for your options). Do some MATH: Look at Brightspace to see how many points you have so far, how many points you are missing, and how many MORE points you need to get to the grade you want.
  • Other classes and what you have due for the rest of the semester

On this Google doc, write down:

  1. Find your episode group and your name
  2. Write your responsibilities for the podcast (write down as many as you can think of; you can review the materials your producers submitted on the Brightspace discussion board)
  3. Write your due dates for all your OTHER classes in chronological order for each assignment/exam
  4. Paste the dates from #3 into last column
  5. Add in your assignments due for ENG 2150 besides podcast responsibilities into last column
  6. Add in when you are going to get done tasks for podcast that you are responsible for.

Producers: review the members of your groups and use this to start discussing how you need to revise your task schedule (which is due April 9 by 11:59pm).

Podcast Episode Meetings (20-30 min)

Producers, review the task schedule and start to revise it with your episode team. Check in with other producers and compare task schedule drafts.

Producers: I need a date that your team is getting me a first draft of the script so I can provide feedback.

Task Schedule Draft 2 due Wednesday, April 9 by 11:59pm

Each group, when is first draft of script going to be done?:

Public Transportation, Ep 1: Monday, April 14

PT, Ep 2: Saturday, April 19

PT, Ep 3: Friday, April 18

Education Costs, Ep 1: Saturday, April 19

EC, Ep 2: Saturday, April 19

EC, Ep 3: Sunday, April 13

Podcast Stations (30-45 min)

Group by the following tasks (if you don’t have one of these tasks, choose one that is closest to something you are doing; if you have more than one of these tasks, choose one you want to get started on first):

By the end of this activity, you should have:

  • Started the script
  • Selected people to interview, communicated with someone to schedule an interview, and/or drafted interview questions
  • Located at least one source that would be helpful for your podcast script as supporting evidence

Public Transportation, Ep 1: dates finalized, interview questions drafted, reached out to interviewees, talked about research (to fact check interviewees, expand on what they say)

PT, Ep 2: finalized schedule, talked over research and interview questions, documents for research to stay organized

PT, Ep 3: found sources for the script writer, contacted script writer, talked through dates for task schedule

Education Costs, Ep 1: found 5 sources, drafted interview questions, decided who to interview, worked on task schedule

EC, Ep 2: finalized task schedule, found some sources for script, personalized interview questions for specific interviewees, script is halfway done

EC, Ep 3: narrowed down research questions, drafted interview questions, have interviews scheduled, found four sources for research for script

April 9 and April 21, and beyond (5 min)

-I will be away at a conference from April 9 to April 11. Thus, we will have an asynchronous class on April 9, meaning we will not meet in person or online via videoconferencing software like Zoom. Instead, producers must revise and submit a second draft of their Task Schedule. Everyone else: get to work on the podcast!

-For April 21, this will be our next class meeting. Podcast Post 3 authors (Minyi, Roy, Amira, Benny, David, Charles, Suleidy), you have until noon(ish) on Monday, April 21 to submit your post on Brightspace. I didn’t want to make the due date during spring break. For all commenters (everyone else in class), you must comment by 11:59pm on Monday, April 21.

-Spring break is a good time for breaks. It’s also a good time to catch up on things if you HAVE to do it. But that is why I wanted to spend a lot of time planning today: what do you need to do? When is it realistic for you to get it done? Take that seriously this week and beyond.

-Who needs to talk with me about your research project? I’m not chasing you. Come see me.
