Personal Statement

by Lily Poon

I have always lived a happy life with fun and loving friends and family even through hard times and good times. One of the most important figures in my life are my parents. My parents are in their 50s and work hard to put food on the table. I believed that if I help them when I have time, they will be happy. I would help do house chores without being asked and is proud to make my parents proud. I also gain their trust by proving that I am not a bad girl. I do not drink, smoke, or party. I always let my parents know where I am and when I will be home. I always believed that I was a good daughter, especially compared to many teenagers in society.

Not only do I try to be a good daughter, I try to be a good friend. Recently, I have two friends that experienced death in the family, a mother and a grandmother. Although I am not related to any of them, I feel the sadness that my friends feel about the death. It makes me sad because I knew the both the mother and the grandmother and they were very both sweet women. I told my friends that if they ever needed to talk, I was all ears, and they did. They told me how they felt and felt more relieved after letting out their stress. I would also try to cheer them up by letting them know funny moments or embarrassing moments that happened to me. For example, not only once, but twice, I walked into the boys bathroom in school. Luckily, there was no one in the bathroom when I walked in. I realized that I was in the wrong bathroom when I saw urinals. I know I am not perfect and make mistakes, so I believe that it is okay to let someone know my embarrassing moments. What happened, happened and I would careless what someone else thinks as long as everyone have a good laugh about it.

I also think that I am a good friend because one of my best friends have been hospitalized for a month due to a car accident. Every other day I would try my best to visit him. I believe that if friends visits, it encourages the person to heal faster and get better. Doctors have said that he was very lucky to live from the accident and woke up amazingly fast. I believe that it may be because of all his friends constantly visiting. Now he is doing well but sometimes forgets what happened in the past. He often tells me to remind him of things and tell him things that happened. I am patient and explain things slowly to him so he can try to remember. Sometimes he gets frustrated that he can’t remember but I continue to stay calm and give him time to absorb the information.

Other than being a good family member or good friend, I try to be good to myself too. I am happy for who I am and do not let others put me down. I stay confident in myself when I am determined to do something. For example, I am currently in Baruch College and I like it here, it has a very lively community, but I do not want to stay here. I want to transfer to a SUNY university because I have always wanted to dorm and I believe it has a greater variety of interests for me compared to Baruch. For days and days, I told myself that I was determined to get into a SUNY by working hard my first year in college. Right now, I am currently accepted into University at Buffalo and is currently waiting on three more schools. Sometimes, I make myself proud.

  1. Thanks for the a new challenge you have discovered in your writing. One thing I would like to comment on is that FSBO relationships are built over time. By bringing out yourself to owners the first weekend break their FSBO can be announced, ahead of masses start out calling on Wednesday, you generate a good relationship. By mailing them tools, educational supplies, free reports, and forms, you become an ally. By using a personal interest in them along with their predicament, you make a solid link that, on many occasions, pays off when the owners decide to go with a broker they know plus trust – preferably you actually.
