Project Overview -IBM Watson PMS is designed to help the NYCT maintenance department to efficiently design schedules utilizing the computer algorithm with big data.
Problem – The New York Subway system, which operated from 1904, has cost the NYCT a great deal of time and money for the daily maintenance under an inefficient system. According to the MTA 2018 ABFFP, if the NYCT keeps operating under the traditional way, the agency could face a $7456 million deficit by the year 2021.
Approach to the solution – Implementing the Artificial Intelligence technology of Watson into the current subway maintenance system has barriers including cost-effectiveness, having accurate AI diagnostics, and having the personnel be familiar with the improved system. To overcome these challenges, the first step is to integrate Watson into the old system through a gradual process (such as a pilot program) making sure that each deployed capability works well with different MTA subway maintenance data systems.
