Project Overview – There is a link between substance abuse and child abuse. By identifying cases where there is substance abuse, we can help identify and mitigate child abuse. Division of Child Protection (DCP) maintains both structured and unstructured data on these cases. The project plans to use data science tools in conjunction with the collected data to create a model to help city employees systematically analyze and interpret this data into meaningful information.
The project will use data science techniques in conjunction with IBM Watson to help identify and prevent child abuse.
Approach to address the problem – The project plans to use data from multiple data sources. This includes Connection and caseworker unstructured notes. The Watson technology will analyze the unstructured data with meaning and non-meaning text mining techniques. This will then be combined with structured data to build a model to identify likely cases of child abuse.
