Jerry Saltz’s 33 Rules for Being an Artist

Summary

The passage that stands out the most to me is lesson 25: “Learn to deal with Rejection”. The aspect of this passage is to take rejection and criticism as motivation rather than being discouraged instead take criticism as an inspiration.

The passage suggests that setbacks are not endpoints and it's an opportunity to improve and have self- growth. By keeping the rejection letters, individuals can look at it as a past challenge and remember these negative experiences to never quit and keep going and in future look how far we have come!

It's hard to be optimistic when we face rejection and I think we all feel it is the end of the world. This passage is for all of us who have been into such situations because it gives us examples of some big people that faced rejection that didn't give up and turned their rejection to eventual success. It tells us that we can come back from anything and it’s all about the mindset. It’s a form of art to turn obstacles into opportunities.

Moreover, by proving critics wrong and making a name for yourself just shows that we can adhere to odd situations and tackle hard times. It also tells us to always believe in ourselves when the outside world doubts us.

Overall, this passage resonates with me because it says to never give up and always be determined. It also shows that setbacks are natural and even people before had to face it and what really matters is how we choose to respond to those setbacks because in the end that will define our success. Using rejection letters and criticism as a fuel for growth helps tackle hard situations in life. Criticism most of the time helps us see where we need to work on the most and working on it we are able to make improvements to anything.
