Social Network – YouTube

I’ve found YouTube to be more like an addiction than an occasional luxury. It is such an excellent source of media, news, information, and so much more. The problem is, at least for me, it is impossible for me to only watch one video and then go back to what I was doing. I opened my computer with the intention of writing this blog, however, I couldn’t help myself but to spend about 50 minutes looking at YouTube videos before writing my first word.

YouTube is my resort for any problem I need a visual answer for. For instance, when I don’t know how to do a problem for my calculus homework, I immediately look up a tutorial of a similar problem someone has posted on YouTube. Before booking my snowboarding trip to Vermont this weekend, I watched GoPro videos of the trails at Okemo Resort that people had posted so that I knew what to expect. One of my favorite things about YouTube is that they list videos similar to the one you watch, this way you’ll always find videos that you’re interested in. This is probably the reason I spend so much time on YouTube.

As sad as it sounds, I actually feel I would be more productive during the day if YouTube didn’t exist. I’m sure this is also the case with most people concerning social networks other than YouTube.

Oh yes! YouTube Facebook = Failing grade on exam because I spent my night watching videos and not studying!

I know what you mean, before I had my wisdom tooth removed I could not stop looking at the videos of people getting thiers removed. I know it sounds sick, all that drilling, cracking sounds. I could not stop looking at all the videos they had.

Do you use any of the social functionality of YouTube? That is, do you have a channel to which you post favorites and videos you create? Or do you follow particular users. It seems that most people use YouTube as a database of content rather than the social network that it is. I suppose that given the fact that you can easily embed YouTube videos on other sites, predisposes it to use as a source of video and can make its social functionality seem superfluous.

I don’t have my own YouTube channel. I use YouTube predominately as a source of information and leisure. There are a few users that I follow because they post videos that I’m always interested in.

I agree with you, you tube is an extraordianary place to learn things, and find needed information however it does take time.

Thank you for taking the time to discuss this, I firmly believe and love learning more on this topic. If possible, when you gain expertise, you mind updating your blog with more information? For me, it is very useful.
