Animation Lecture

That was a lot. It was interesting to see how animation has changed over the years from being physical, digital, or a combo of the 2. Some of the one that I thought were cool were Rejected, Alien Afterlife, Logorama, and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. I already knew about Full Frontal since I like to have random video essay type things talking about stuff and one of them was about Chris Savino and how he was just a messed up person who ruined everything for everyone around him and himself. I think it’s great how people can use animation as way to spread awareness of issues like these. Not only does it effectively share the information but it also puts in some artist/visual representation of how these women felt when people like him were around. Rejected was fun. I liked how it didn’t make sense and was just randomly violent. I liked the part when they beat they guy up cuz his hat wasn’t funny enough. I feel like that how my brain works sometimes. The ending was really cool too. It really captured how Hertzfeldt must’ve felt when his work was getting rejected. It was really captured through how the animations evolved like the characters being drawn with his left hand and then the world literally falling apart. The way he used the paper was really smart too. It gives a lot more texture and panic with how the paper was ripping, shaking, and crumpling up. Logorama was fun with the way they used everyday things that we see and just creating an entire new world and story out of them. They also captured one of may favorite concepts of clowns just being menaces to society. Lastly, Alien Afterlife lowkey reminded me of ENA Dream BBQ. The way the world doesn’t make sense and it uses both 2D and 3D things in the world. I think it’s fun and interesting to see how 2D and 3D animation or assets can be used in one place.
