I thought the video was really interesting. I agree with the guy in the video when he talks about how the copyright system hinders creativity. I feel like all art is created through a bit of inspiration and borrowing ideas from existing concepts so the idea of copyright being used to diminish that is pretty lame. I was pretty surprised to hear how copyright was originally a method to encourage creativity. It’s really unfortunate that people now prioritize money over creativity. Another thing I found surprising was how much money it would have cost Girl Talk to even turn his music into a CD. Lastly, I found it a bit ironic how Disney was a company that used the ideas of mashups by taking story’s and putting it through their format. Now they are one of the biggest users of copyright. I definitely see the issue of how copyright impacts creativity negatively. It’s always sad to see a brilliant work of art be taken down because of someone else. I do also see how copyleft is a concept. My taste in music is more in the niche area so a couple of my favorite artists like Weevildoing use samples in their music to give it that extra crunch. I occasionally see them looking at remixes or artwork people made based on their work and openly encourage them. I wish to see more people encourage others to make art rather than scare them with things like copyright.
