This particular source talks about the imbalance between life in reality and life on the Internet. In extreme cases, the report argues an Internet addiction results but this definition is of limited value. That is, research and treatment becomes limited by labeling this as an addiction. Instead, “pathological overuse is seen as a failed solution in which people become entrapped by technology’s promise of delivering the which only life can offer.” This alternate perspective on my theme will definitely give me something to discuss and will complete my understanding of why we become addicted to the Internet in the first place.

In this article, the author talks about his dependence on technology and his experience developing serious chronic illnesses from typing too much. He now has to use a voice recognition program to convert his words into text. Ironically, while technology caused his condition, he now depends on it to surpass it. I think the irony in this article and the credibility of the author on this topic will help me drive home my comparison of technology to drugs, especially the dependency issue.
