I chose passage 4 as it brings a close connection to the world of art and also modern society as how it connects modern works to past works of art. It interests me a lot. I have never really taken into consideration what an “aura” is considered to be. In the passage, it goes into comparison to the ancient sculpture of Venus. Venus is a statue and a god that the Romans worship which also applies to the Greeks as it also is their god but in a different name; Aphrodite. It brings into depth how each sculpture is similar to each other but differently made, it could be simple things such as materials and it shows a sense of “aura” as to how each sculpture is similar but can be different in many ways. This connects to modern society as it is very similar to how photography changed the way of art forever. It interests me because how many works of art can just be in different degrees or angles and can change the photo and the expression or the work of art where the focus is different in each separate photo. In addition to this, art has changed a lot in modern society due to the ability of mechanical reproduction as people can just print works in multiple copies and make each and every one of the works the same as the original print which changes unique individual arts forever. I felt a little outrage from this because people can just simply purchase expensive works of art and just print them and sell them which devalues the art by a lot and makes it not unique anymore. If printing was available in the past, the works that have been valued in history would not be as special anymore because there wouldn’t ever be a 1 to 1 copy anymore.
