RiP: A Remix Manifesto

Remix has become a culture to the new generation, They tried new ways to make old songs and mash them up into new vibes and new songs. It has become so much of a problem that it brought a lot of copyright lawsuits against them. It had become an issue because of the big corporations such as Warner Chappel, which was considered to be the biggest recording company at that time. Since big corporations weren’t making enough money at all for the copyrights that they had, they sent lawsuits out to people who were either copyrighting songs or just illegally downloading songs or other terms for pirate songs. In the beginning, corporations were open-minded to people copying songs as it always had happened back then. Artists often took songs and mashed them with their songs to create a whole new beat. There was copyright and also copyleft. Before everyone started copyrighting songs, everything was in the public domain or would be called copyleft as how everything wasn’t as strict and it created opportunities for people to be creative. As record companies with copyrights suddenly were losing money due to people losing interest, they had to do something. They provoked the use of songs to be public in the domain and rather have copyrights on them to prevent people from making a fortune due to how remixes and pirated songs were making more of a profit than the original copyright. This caused many artists that specialize in remixes and mashups such as Girl Talk to have to call a lot of artists or companies just to make sure they were under the laws of copyright because they were afraid of getting a lawsuit.
