A New York Hero
An entrepreneur and creative genius, Ralph Lauren is not only the pioneer of American design but his story also encompasses the American Dream. The progeny of immigrants, Ralph Lauren went on to start up his own company and brand despite having no background experience in fashion. By 1972, he had designed the classic mesh polo shirt that is now internationally recognized and timeless. Soon enough his business grew into a multi-billion-dollar empire… just another one of the amazing New York City success stories we all strive to become a part of.
Although, I don’t aspire to enter fashion, I do admire Ralph Lauren’s accomplishments as an entrepeneur. Also, there’s the fact that he is a Bronx native and attended Baruch.

Interesting hero. You my have sparked some interest in me for the guy now knowing that he is from where I live and attended the school I attend now. His clothes are good and the guy is a great business man. I like your choice for New York Hero.
Your idea of a New York hero is very different but interesting. I never knew that he went to Baruch college. I can see why he would be considered a hero to you and many others. If he made it this far into owning his multi-million company, anyone who attends Baruch can do it to.
Wow, I didn’t know he had attended Baruch. Well written and right to the point. Compact and informative. Maybe elaborate more on his achievements and whatnot
Yeah I didn’t know he went to Baruch either. Good job on the post and I agree he is basically the American Dream, which is what all of us are striving to reach. I also like the fact that you included the classic mesh polo part. Whenever someone is able to create something (whether it’s a trend, invention, etc.) that is used all over the world by people of all races, that’s an amazing thing to be able to achieve.
I was a great dedication to Ralph Lauren but I felt that it could have been longer. Although the piece was intended to be short, I think a few additional points could have done more for the essay, specifically more focus on Lauren’s heroism.
Great choice for a hero! i had no idea he was from NYC and managed to achieve so much without any fashion background! great research, would have liked to read more. perhaps cite you sources?
