For my video project, I was thinking of doing something about The Beatles. This year marks the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ arrival in America, which was and still is an important milestone in music history. After some research, I found that there is going to be an exhibition at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. It is called “Ladies and Gentlemen… The Beatles!” and will showcase videos, photos, recordings, and memorabilia dealing with The Beatles.

I thought that I could attend this exhibition and interview the people who are in charge and also some people who are also in attendance. I would probably ask them about what the significance The Beatles have had in their lives, how long they have been a fan, etc.

Since i have interests in automobiles, I will look to cover an auto event called Honda Day. Every year two events are held out in Atco, New Jersey. At this event car enthusiasts showcase their builds. Although every car there is a Honda, Modifications done to these cars vastly separate their appearance.

This coverage interests me because these large volume meets don’t happen often. A lot of ordinary people try to hold meets in parks and open areas but aren’t successful because of permit issues, normally cops shut down these improvised meets. Honda Day gives people a platform to showcase their passion for cars.

Francisco Catedral, is from Richmond Virginia. He worked in fashion shows, runway and had even taught others his tips and tricks of makeup artistry. Catedral, has opened up his own school to teach others how to do their own makeup. He has had the privlage to work with so many models, students and companies behind the scenes to transform into the perfectionist he is today. Catedral’s school is called “The Lash and Beauty Studio.” Before, the launch of school he has given free seminars to teach others the history of the top makeup looks in New York City. During his workshops, Catedral will teach participants the history of the look, how to achieve the look and then allow them to have hands on training. For this multimedia project, I hope to get one on one with Catedral during his smokey eye seminar. I’m interested in telling his story. Why did he open his own school? How has it benefited his career? What does he offer students that graduate from his classes?

I also hope to interview the people participating to get their feedback on what they learned from the lessons and how they heard about the free seminar. I believe social media has been a huge impact to Catedral school because that is where I came across his school as well as his flyers for his seminars.

To be completely honest, I am having a tremendously hard time determining what I want to do my video on.  My beat for this classes has been businesses, mainly focusing on those who have created their own businesses.  My first assignment focused on an immigrant who followed her dream in creating a daycare.  The second assignment focused on a man who created his own print shop.  I currently know someone who is opening up a London-based franchise, that I would love to focus on.  I think it would make an interesting story.  However, I wouldn’t have a clue on how to go about it or what the video should include.  There’s so many angles that I could do this from, such as watching him create the actual store or focusing completely on the business aspect, or something completely different.  Nonetheless, I am not too sure how well that source will pan out; therefore, I might have to find a completely new idea.

For my video I would like to do a story on the lack of people willing to adopt a senior dog or any dog that is not a puppy and also how many of these older dogs need homes. I want to go to an animal shelter and interview some of the people who work there and find out how many people adopt older dogs compared to puppies and reasons why it is beneficial or just as rewarding to adopt an older dog. I also want to interview someone who is maybe a dog trainer or someone who works with dogs to find out the benefits of adopting an older dog and why it is not any better or worse than adopting a puppy. I could also try to reach out to the organization that have recently been springing up advocating the adoption of older dogs and get their input on the importance of adopting dogs of all ages and how many of these dogs need homes.

For my video project I would like to do it on the after math of the Harlem Explosions. I did this for my podcast interview, but I can capture a different angle on it as this project is more visual. I can film the ongoing construction and interview workers.

Another idea I had was to do it on catcalling. For some reason, men think it is okay and think that women like that type of attention. I can film men while they are acting in this disgusting manner, interview women on the matter, and interview police officers to see to when they get involved.

For my final project, I would like to do it on the recycling program in New York City. We, as a whole, generate a lot of trash so I want to talk about the importance of recycling and what the consequences would be if we disregard it. I plan on interviewing several organizations as potential subjects for this assignment.

For the video portion of the project, the scenes that I would want to capture are people littering, others recycling, volunteers informing the public about the importance of recycling and other relevant info.

I am not sure how I am planning to tell the story. Maybe I can have like a photo slideshow and video that capture the whole concept of the recycling program and how it is going to be significant for us and for others in the future. The writing portion would entail subject’s quotes and other important information regarding the program.
