Multimedia Reporting – Spring 2014

For my podcast i would like to revert to my original story idea of the Roseland Ballroom closing down. I feel like there are so many different angles i could take on this story because it fits into so many different areas. It could be a local, business, or arts and entertainment piece. In order to construct this podcast I plan to interview the current employees and try to find out why the venue is closing and what it means for them. Also, I want to try and interview local business owners around the Ballroom, mainly restaurants, and see if they feel it will hurt their business and how much business they get from people who are coming from or going to the Ballroom. The Roseland Ballroom closing down is also going to effect the music industry because it has been such a prominent New York Venue so i want to look into how it will effect the music scene in New York and what venue will take its place.

For my podcast I would like to do a follow up story on the Welling Court Mural Project. With there being talk that last summer’s renovation of the art in the small community in Queens would be the last, I would like to interview Ad Hoc Art, the founders of the project, to see why they will (most likely) not continue the project. This is a good news peg because 5 Pointz was recently white washed and is pending demolition and now another street art project in Queens is being discontinued.

For this assignment, I am interested in doing a podcast featuring makeup artists who work freelance jobs such as bridal, runway and photo shoots. I want to do get in on the inside of the business. How it works, whether artists need to get certified or not, building their kits to use doing their projects. I hope their is some sort of difference because I want to focus of those three types of artists. I would also like to talk with photographers and learn more about how they work with makeup artists and reach out to them. What do they look to achieve when taking photos for the makeup artists.
