The Nacerima Body Ritual was very interesting to me. It was so interesting I made my wife read it, but I didn’t tell her that Nacerima is American spelled backwards. After she read it, she commented on how strange they are. I had to fight the urge to burst into laughter as she began describing there strange practices; for example,  when the women put there heads in ovens for an hour, or when they visit the latipso, and the obsession with an unrealistic ideal appearance.

After I let her finish I pointed out that Nacerima is American spelled backwards and we burst into tears of laughter for at least 5 minutes. Then we went through and I showed her that the oven was actually a hair dryer, the latipso is hospital without the “h” and spelled backwards, and so on. She asked the purpose of this ethnography; in my opinion it was for the individual that forgets no culture is better than another, but I am curious about other opinions.
