Change is always a part of our life. Every individual is constantly changing the way they look at things, what they hate or like what’s good or bad. In the same way media communication and technology has changed and made us change with them. Technology and the way we communicate has made us redesign our everyday lifestyle. As pointed in the book “Electric technology is reshaping and restructuring patterns of social interdependence and every aspect of our personal life” (pg8). Even nowadays technology has changed the way we communicate with one another. Electronic communications and mass media play a major role in our everyday life. For instance the shift in the way we use communication, for example notice the part cell phones play for us daily. Individuals tend to communicate more thru text than by actually talking. Some people for example text their boss to let them know they are coming late, so now the questions comes in to pay, how acceptable is this?
New waves of information are emerging and creating a big gap between old and new generations. “The worldpool of information fathered by electronic media…. surpass any possible influence mom and dad can now bring to bear” (pg 14). New generations are more open to the idea of change and absorb technology functionalities faster. We have social media like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter and so on. We are more open to new ideas of communication, the way we think about something, to voice our opinion in any way. Now how much we share has become limitless.
Our imagination has begun to fly. We innovate ourselves to evolution and expansion. However our current resources, mechanisms and technology slows the process. Limits between privacy, personal freedom and surveillance. How many others are scared of the unknown, like a heavy amount of surveillance to be prepared for any situation. Eyes are always on us. What can other share about you e.g. pictures, that can hurt your image and expose someone.
Changes between generations, change the impact on them with technology literacy. New forms of information that flows faster. The way the government had to reconstruct themselves to be more transparent. Responses are giving within minutes by on-air broadcast.
A lot of things are share able nowadays. Facebook, pictures, profile, where are you, where you have been, everything is tracked and pinpointed. Like the reading says “any understanding of social and cultural change is impossible without a knowledge of the way media work as environments”
