Trial: American Consumer Culture

Through September 23, we have trial access to American Consumer Culture:

Trial to ProfitCents from Sageworks

Trial access to ProfitCents until August 31, 2014.

ProfitCents is a SageWorks product providing industry data, financial analysis, and benchmarking data for private companies. Provides access to 60 ratios and metrics from 1,400 U.S. and Canadian industries.

Database Trial: J.P. Morgan Research

Description (from vendor): “Features thousands of analyst reports covering over 3,000 global companies and all industries. Derived from Morgan Markets – which is J.P. Morgan’s exclusive information for key clients and investors…. Coverage is 2011 to current with a one week embargo. Lengthy reports cover equities and company performance, global and regional economics and financial strategy, foreign exchange, commodities, liquidity, and emerging markets.”

Trial to Rosetta Stone

Rosetta Stone offers language instruction. Trial details:

  • Trial is via EBSCO
  • Each user will need to create their own personal account;  they must enter their email and create a password (no other information is required).
  • Each user will be able to access their personal trial account for the length of the trial, beginning on the day they create their personal account.
  • CUNY-wide trial
  • Ends June 18
  • Link can be found on the “Trials” tab of the main databases page
  • Instructions for installing the Rosetta Stone app

Trial to eStatement Studies (from RMA)

Through May 2, we have a trieal to eStatement Studies, which is from RMA, which describes the content this way:

RMA is the most respected source of objective, unbiased information on issues of importance to credit risk professionals. For over 94 years, RMA’s Annual Statement Studies has been the industry standard for comparison of financial data. Material contained in today’s Annual Statement Studies was first published in the March 1919 issue of the Federal Reserve Bulletin. In the days before computers, the Annual Statement Studies data was recorded in pencil on yellow ledger paper! Today, it features data for over 780 industries derived directly from more than 257,000 statements of financial institutions’ borrowers and prospects.

Trial Access to Mango Premiere

We’ve had a subscription to Mango Languages for a while. Now, we have trial access to an additional component: Mango Premiere, a service that offers 20 videos in different languages. If you bring up a French movie, for example, you can turn on English subtitles or French subtitles or both.

There is a unique logon for this trial found on the “Databases Overview” page of the Library Services wiki. You’ll need to use the link on the Trials tab of the main databases page, as the other Mango Languages link won’t connect to the trial we have.

Trial Access to Historical Data in ReferenceUSA

Through the end of the month we have trial access to historical data in ReferenceUSA. Here’s how to get to it:

  1. Go to link to ReferenceUSA on the “Q-R” tab of the main databases page
  2. On the lower right corner of the page, click the tiny link for “Admin Log On”
  3. On the Admin Log On page, use the credentials listed on the “Databases Overview” page in the Library Services Wiki
  4. Once logged in, you’ll see the usual ReferenceUSA menu now includes a link to the historical data:

Trial to PBS Video Collection

Through May 17 we have trial access to the PBS Video Collection. The vendor, Alexander Street Press, provided this description of the content:

The PBS Video Collection assembles hundreds of the greatest documentary films and series from the history of the Public Broadcasting Service into one convenient online interface. A core of 245 titles, selected for their high quality and relevance to academic curricula, covers many educational disciplines, including history, science and technology, diversity studies, business, and current events. This collection provides access to the films and series users already know and trust, including Frontline, NOVA, American Experience, Odyssey, and films by Ken Burns and Michael Wood.

There are videos in here that might of use across a wide range of disciplines and is likely to be of interest with faculty in many departments. A link to the database can be found in the usual Trials tab on the Databases page.

Trial Access to Health and Psychosocial Instruments

Through May 16, we have trial access to a database on the EBSCOhost platform, Health and Psychosocial Instruments. If someone wants to find articles that talk about a specific psychological test, this database offers a good way to do it.

A link to the database can be found on the trials tab of the databases page. Off campus access is available. Please take a look at it, share it with faculty, and offer any feedback you get or have.

Trial to Films on Demand

Through March 9, all CUNY libraries have trial access to Films on Demand, a service that offers a huge collection of streaming video. Films on Demand allows subscriptions to individual sub-collections as well as to the whole collection. Please share this trial with any departments you work with along with the link to the form for gathering feedback on database trials (see the Trials tab on the Databases page). Access is limited to on-campus only.
