CIS Final Presentation

Final Presentation:

Group members: Keron John, Jaritza Marte and Renee Richardson.

Our presentation is about Social Media. We define the differences between social media and social networking. We discuss the the user benefits, pros and cons, and privacy settings and control users have when joining social networking sites. Our presentation was created using Powerpoint to create our slides. However we used Jing, for audio. It was very interesting and a learning experience for the group members in using Jing for the first time.

  1. Great Topic and well organized. I agree with the social networking benefits that you mention specially when it comes to businesses. The way businesses promote there ads through social network is very easy and professional compare to pop-up ads that is use through the net for year.

For example Facebook ads often relates to your interest. In addition, consumers may benefit from the “Big Prize Giveaway” application on Facebook. This application help companies “implement sweepstakes and other promotions on Facebook with the support of advertising on the site.” Basically, the application allows individuals the chance to win a free prize such as an iphone, or a gift card that companies have paid for or provided in exchange for product placement and promotion (such as users having to become their fan for the chance to win). These fan pages allow any user, whether it’s a big brand company or an individual user, to create a page for free. Fan pages are often use in branding personal businesses. Users of Facebook can visit a fan page to learn about it, like the page, and read reviews that others made. Also if a Facebook user has a friend who likes a certain fan page, he or she will be notified.

This is a great way to build audience because your friends normally tend to check out the things you like. Although it can save companies a lot of money, if the company has a bad reputation, it will be shown on the page. In contrary, if the company has a great reputation, others who didn’t know about the company will give it a try.

  2. I think you guys did a great job with this presentation. To me personally, social media is a topic where it can benefit but also hurt the professional world in so many ways. Facebook and twitter for examples are not really the most professional websites. In many ways there actually used to pass time rather then connect individuals and groups. In the professional world, their is a certain aura that you have to keep and maintain that professional barrier. I sometimes think Facebook and twitter actually breaks it rather then enhancing a stronger relationship withing the group
