College Students often refer to grand sources of information for projects, essays, and anything that requires external knowledge. Baruch offers an amazing amount of accessible information through its library, e-reserves, internet website, and databases. However for my community service project, it was external from the school. I felt as though my whole project was about interacting with people other than colleagues and teachers. The only resources that I used were the databases. The databases are an extensive source of information that incorporates the news and information from that past with that of the future. It is possibly the best of the resources that Baruch provides. My understanding of this project helped expand my view on how people can help others. It it with organizations like City Harvest that people prosper and can start anew and live.

I have not joined a club, however I plan on creating one, the Baruch Fencing Club. This was inspired through my eight years of fencing, and to compete with Hunter, I believe it would be a great experience to have. If I start this new club, my Resume will look fantastic and i’ll have an edge on the competition. I hope to inspire others to strive for greatness when fencing. Hopefully if the club does get permission to start, it can eventually develop into an actual sports teams and compete with major school like NYU, Columbia, and Penn State. Hunter is the only CUNY school that has a Fencing team and I would like to change that, considering that it is our rival school.

Within my life i’ve done more than just help myself. Within the Baruch community, I help my classmates by helping them with say, math homework, or whatever they need help with. However, where I am most helpful is with the community on Long Island.

On Long Island, in Suffolk County, in Selden, my life is personified by helping people I am friends with. People who I’ve been friends with are people who rely on me for more than just a person to hang out with. They rely on me for advice, a helping hand, and a shoulder to lean on. It is fortunate for both them and me that I have the ability to go back every weekend.

Besides helping my friends, I have also help my family through going home to babysit my younger brother while both of my parents go to work. During my free time back home, I also volunteer at my local church, doing things such as making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless, working at the local soup kitchen, and most recently helping some friends out with teaching a class.

With Baruch though, I hope to further increase my effect on the community. I plan on joining one of the clubs in the college and through that, help the whole community more. It is because of the numerous clubs in this institute that I have a hard time deciding which one I want to join. There are too many factors to base it off of and It is because of the amount of community service that each of these clubs do that sets them apart from other colleges clubs.

My life has been a roller coaster. My past is filled of both joy and turmoil, from vacations in the Philippines to the problems with my parents and their separation. However my life has still been a joy and an amazing experience. Since i was very young, I was raised as a well-mannered boy, always reminded constantly to say please and thank you, hold the doors for others, everything parents would expect of their child. I grew up into a Man. My experiences as a child were many and vast. I traveled the world each summer going to places like the China, Japan, California, Florida, Minnesota, and of course, where my parents originally came from the Philippines. This exposed me to many cultures as a young boy. As i grew older, I grew to realize how vast and expansive the world was. I also realized the extreme poverty in Third World Countries, but i realized that theres also beauty in these places. Places like the Philippines beaches, Carribean beaches, the amazon rainforest, Tokyo’s Cityscape all have gorgeous scenery and fantastic views. It took my breath away each time I would stop and look.

College is quite different however. I expected it to be much harder but enjoy every moment of it. I started school and I thought, “Wait, This isn’t so bad.” I realized that it wasn’t that it was easy, it was that I was well prepared for college. It was all of my experiences in high school and life that I have no worries about college. It is thanks to my parents, teachers, friends and family that I love college and everything that comes with it.
