Use at least 10 of the 15 sounds you recorded or sampled
This does not have to be a song, is a Sound Art. You can remix an interview, something you download, a podcast, soundscape, things from YouTube or whatever.
Audio clips can not just be butted up against one another to make a playlist. You have to have some layered audio and multiple tracks.
There are two parts to this reading. The first is The Art of Noise. The response to this is straightforward, I want your insights into this reading, not a summary. Let me know what you connect to, what you like, and what you don’t like. Added: Russolo, “The Art of Noise”: Link: http://www.ubu.com/historical/russolo/index.html (read intro and PDF download)
The second part is to explore the world of sound as Art. Pick an artist from the Ubu page and tell me what you think now that you have read about noise. Have you thought about sound as art before? Did you pick something you love or hate? Tell me about your thoughts.
For Next Wednesday
– record 10-15 sounds, bring in sounds, and take sounds from anywhere other than “Stand Clear Of The Closing Doors Please”
– have an idea about the remix audio project.
This week’s reading is a watching! Please watch at least the first 24 minutes of this 2008 documentary. As we move into audio our next project is an audio remix.
Your audio projects do not have to sound anything like Girl Talk, this is just a jumping-off point to learn about some of the ideas about remix.
One of the big takeaways here is culture always builds on the past. We did this with the photoshops we did and now we will be expanding that idea in audio form!
As an update to this, Happy Birthday is now in the Public Domain.
The music and lyrics are in the public domain in the European Union and the United States. The copyright expired in the European Union on January 1, 2017. A U.S. federal court ruled in 2016 that Warner and Chappell’s copyright claim was invalid and there was no other claim to copyright.
Post a 250-word response to your blog.
Due – March 19th
Produce a single photographic self-portrait. This may be a composite of multiple images put together into one or a single image that you have manipulated and altered in Photoshop. The effects used should have some meaningful connection to the image and the “sense” you want to invoke NOT just effects for the sake of effects. You may also have someone else take the photo that you set up and pose in. Remember, you will not get the best shot on your first try. Part of being an artist is choosing the right image for the right feeling.
At least one image needs to have been taken this week or next week.
