The phrase “a new media object is not something fixed one and for all, but for something that can exist in different, potentially infinite versions” stood out to me. It reminded me of all my art classes in high school, and I had many opportunities to make what I would call as new media arts too. There was one time when we took a had to take a piece of art that was already made from others, then we had to change it into our own. I chose Van Gogh’s starry night because I really liked that piece. I changed it so that the colors of the painting were different – changed from blue and white to pink and purple. Then I also changed the scenery of the tall mountain and the little town to New York City.
Painting and images and videos can always be changed in different ways to become other art pieces and can express different things. We can use photoshop or adobe and other editing apps to change these so-called finished art pieces and make it into something different. This is what I did with my art piece. Maybe not all will accept this new media art and our changed version, but it is part of the process to create new things.
The passage constantly mentions how the improvement of technology has changed our use of what art is. Instead of just the old media – just photographs and videos, we can take these digital improvements to good use.
In the past I have also created a video on my own with photos and videos from online. I really liked the experience of editing what existed to something that was mine. I think this is the magic of what technology can do to media arts – changing from old media to what we call new media arts.
