Reading respond # 2 – “What Is New Media Art?”

The development and advancement of science and technology have changed the language form and creative mode of traditional art and promoted the development of new media art. New media art not only promotes new artistic concepts and art communication methods, but also forms a new trend in the development of world art. The art produced by the new media art on the basis of multimedia technology has revolutionized the aesthetic feeling, experience and thinking of the art under the change of high-tech development.

As computerization affects deeper cultural changes, the distinction between new media art and old media is under four logics. They are digital representation, modularity, variability and automation. One of my favorite things is variability. Because modularity contains elements such as pixels, images, text, sounds, frames, and so on. The combination of these elements forms a new element. These elements can be modified and manipulated independently and reused in other works. They can all be considered as a single entity. For example, modularity is clearly the framework, and images and text are programmable. Each has a certain degree of independence, but it is an indispensable part.

New Tool – Memories Recall machine

Memories can rely on a photo or a video to record it for a while, but in our lives we encounter many different people and create many moving memories. Sometimes we evoke memories because we see souvenirs bought during the tour. Maybe we will remember the partners we visited together or the places we visited before, but it is difficult for us to feel the touch we felt at the time. This machine can bring us warmth when we feel depressed or feel sad. For example, this machine is suitable for helping with depression or some psychological trauma treatment. An ultra-miniature machine placed on the pupil of the eye was born. It is similar to the contact lens and easy to carry. For security issues, everyone has their own unique pupil and iris so this micro-machine can only be used on their own eyes without worrying about privacy leaks. This micro-machine can detect our heartbeat and brainwaves and start recording. It can also be placed directly on our eyes from our perspective. It’s like a memory recall machine with super capacity.

Attention: Although memories can bring us pain or sweet feelings, we can’t indulge in the past but continue to move forward.

Reading Response – “How to Be an Artist 33 rules to take you from clueless amateur to generational talent”

Before I started to learn art, I often felt that “I haven’t made progress.” “I don’t have creative talent. Does this mean that I am not suitable for art?” These two sentences I often use it to question myself. In the process of starting to learn to draw, each artwork is from nothing to have something. It also come from imperfection to constant modification. I am often ashamed of works that I feel the drawing are not satisfied enough. I don’t want others to see my failure. But I remember that my art teacher asked each of us to discharge our work and show it to everyone, and then go to review the work together. This used to be the beginning of my horror. In the article “How to Be an Artist 33 rules to take you from clueless amateur to generational talent” by Jerry Saltz, inside the Lesson 1: Don’t Be Embarrassed deeply touched to me. “Making art can be humiliating, terrifying, leave you feeling foul, exposed, … But art doesn’t have to make sense. It doesn’t even need to be good.” This is a magical conversion process. Yes, not everything is good and perfect, but each one is our own experience and process. The first step in becoming an artist is not to be afraid of the imperfections of your artwork and the courage to show the charm of your work.

I didn’t imagine how to think like an artist, but we know that imagination is a job that no machine can replace and do, and what we have to do is how to realize it. Human beings have changed the earth by creation and inspired the progress and change of the times. Creativity is through our practice of doing this all the time. We can think like an artist through our brain activity.
