In todays reading “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction” by Walter Benjamin (1935), The passage that stood out to me was passage VIII, as it went into the way that one actor performs. It interest me the difference that there is between stage actor and screen actor, in which the stage actor builds a connection to the audience’s as the audience are seeing the performance in real time, compared to a screen actor in which the camera is capturing the moment.

I was really surprised as it never was thought that the a camera and the person capturing the seen played a big role in having the scene invoke a feeling to the audience. making the actor performance stand out more.

Reading: Russolo, The Art of Noises

Frist Part:

Throughout the reading “The Art of Noises” by Luigi Russolo, Goes on into the way that the art of noise didn’t exist back then but when it did it was something new than just thuds. Which i found really fascinating as i always believed that “music” was something that always excited, i liked how ever since noise art came many different cultures used it in many different ways. And the way that its encouraging more noise art to be created, so for the future there to be more and with there hint of time.

Second Part:

After reading The Art of Noises” by Luigi Russolo, i did think of sound like art as everything is recorded for reason and it has a purpose. The artist that i picked was Rainer Werner Fassbinder (1945-1982), and the sounds were something that i indeed like it was soothing even though the dialogue kinda spooked me as i was so impressed in the sounds but i really liked it as i believe there was a story being told even though it was in French. The one i liked the most was lola as it was something that i will be able to hear for time without it being timeless.

Reading: McLuhan, The Medium is the Massage

Throughout the reading “The Medium is the Massage” by Marshall McLuhan, Goes on about our evolving nature and a passage that I found interesting that helped me correlate was in the passage “You”. The passage “You” not only stood out to me because it related to what he was talking about before about our time moving forward, but it also talked about how traditions have changed over time. Old traditions were a way that one kept to themself but now people actually try to find a way to help themself.

I found it so interesting that in fact we as a society did change from being one to keep what they like or overall are into to now wanting to find a community to build a connection, this connection being helped with of course the internet. A part i found confusing was in the part “no erasure of early “mistakes”, i was unsure if it meant because time was starting to change now people are able to talk about others and now more what you do will stick as the internet has evolved to something that saves everything.

Animation Class

Throughout this lesson it was there plenty of interesting Animation the four that were interesting to me were: Zoetrope as it was one of the art i did not really see the apply i understood that going in a circle was supposed to show the drawing like the rest of the ones that were made in the past, but this animation style didn’t applied to me. Flip book were really interesting to me as in the video it looked as if it was actually watching a moving picture, in the video it showed a girl riding a horse and it felt as if i was watching a video as every little pictured aligned. Steamboat Willie, 1928 was interesting as it was a the first one with sound also showing cel being used, showing micky mouse whistling which a famous whistle. Also found interesting that most of the first sounds being used were sound effects. Finally i really liked Rino Stefano Tagliafierro, B E A U T Y 2014 really liked the way that the art is coming to life giving a very magical moment combined with the music even more so.

Remix manifesto

A Remix manifesto begins with showing a man remixing together different types of songs (songs that own their own copyright) together in which in turns help him create new songs, the downside being that many of the songs can get the person making the remix arrested. The remixes were in huge part started because of the internet many started being of different clips and music all mixed in together which turns to the people that created the things want credit and monopolize the creation that they made making it “copyright”. While others believed that the stuff should be public and free to use “public domain” which helps these remixes help them use creativity.

Remix manifesto concerts of culture from the past, and the past coming to the future to take hold and in turn makes the future less free. What we have to do to build “free societies” is to not let the past take hold of our future. The moral dilemma that talks in the video of “girl talk” about whether it’s creative, some will say that it’s not because it’s made from pre existing music, but others believe that it does as they relate it to the past in which songs from the past  use samples of other music into the music that they were making. Copyright is something that denies them from using music if used they can be fined or will have to pay to use the music “controlling what they owe”. Overall showing the limitation there is because of copyright.
