Reading 5_The Work of Art

One of the reasons I love art is because of how art comes in many different forms and careers. Before I get into that there’s a line that stood out to me in the reading, “In principle, a work of art has always been reproducible,” This line is something I agree with a lot. In a way, a lot of things that we see are a reproduce of something that already exists. Take laptops for example, laptops are an art in itself. The way the model is designed, or the way the keys are placed and how there isn’t just one laptop out there but many different ones in different styles. Buildings are also another form of art that has been reproduced, and along with that paintings have also become something that have become a work of inspiration, and gets created in its own touch by many other artists.

We recently did an assignment that was called the homer animation. In this animation we had to struck homer with lighting. All of my classmates and I, by following the professors guide created the same animation but what’s interesting is we were all reproducing something that was already made, and all of them had their own touch into it.

As I was reading on, I found it so interesting that the author brought up stage actors and film actors. Usually, I never really see this form of art being talked about when it comes to reading books about art but as I mentioned earlier, art comes in all forms and it was nice to see this correlation.

Another take that stood out to me was how the author mentions that film actors and the audience have sort of a barrier between them that permits a personal connection between the both. This was such an interesting take to me and I have mixed feelings towards it because the camera is sort of a portal that connects the audience and the actor, showcasing emotions that we may not be able to pick up in person. However, I do see the correlation as well, for example when we go to museums we end up seeing more than what meets the eyes because we are physically present with the paintings. I believe that’s where the author gets the idea that this barrier doesn’t allow any “personal contact” due to the camera present in between. But, we are still able to see the art whether its in person or online. Overall, no matter what field it is, art will always persist.
