Part of the reason why I wanted to be an art student was because of how big this field is. There’s so many different mediums to use and different things you can create while being an art student. New Media isn’t something thats put under a category that involves cameras, photography, or even computer games. New Media goes beyond this category and is the name of many things which are the videos we take and put together or “illustrations, ads, layouts” etc.
Most of the reading reminded me of the article we previously read about the rules of being an artist. There’s a statement that reminds me of how art isn’t just created with mediums such as paint and canvas but it can also be created in various different forms using a camera or technology. It’s stated, “New Media also allows us to create versions of the same object that differ from each other in more substantial ways.” This statement shows that in New Media you have the creative freedom of showcasing your “voice” and creating something new out of it as if you’re imitating what you’re seeing just like we’ve read in our previous reading.
David Blair’s “Wax Web” is a website that lets the users/ audience have the freedom to interact with it and change it. This creative freedom where the audience uses their own touch to create something new showcases how there aren’t any limits to creating art. Having your own “voice” being reflected in art or choosing to have your own interpretation in art is one of the things that New Media and Art have in common. This reading reminds me of our previous reading where one of the rules is to find your voice, just like that in New Media you find your voice and create something in your own way.
