YOFI Event at Baruch

Last week, the Youth Organization for Israel held an event and invited a man living in the so called West Bank in Israel. He educated the group about the current situation in the country and told many inspiring and frightening stories about what citizens in that area go through on a day to day basis. As conflicts in that part of the world continue, it is really important to stay informed about what is happening and to constantly be trying to find a solution that everyone can live with.

Jets Inconsistent Season

The Jets football team have been disappointed in their performance thus far in the season. They are apparently “moon

Another loss for the Jets

-walking” through the season. The results of the games have proven to be win, lose, win, lose. The team claims they can do better than a 8-8 record, if they want to make the play offs. The team fell short against the Pittsburgh Steelers, in their last game on Sunday. If the pattern continues, they should win against the New England Patriots, against whom they have already lost. This next game should be interesting for fans and viewers, who are eager to see if the Jets will keep this pattern.

Turning to the Rookie

Running into a Victory

Since most of the running backs on the Giants football team are injured, the team is looking to their rookie player, to play against the Vikings. David Wilson, Andre Brown, and Da’Rel Scott are all out for at least a few weeks. Since the Giants team is so impressed with Michael Cox, they are hoping he will be ready to play in their game versing the Minnesota Vikings. He knows he still has a lot to learn, but he feels “ready to go.”
This story fits in with our selected theme considering that football is a nationally discussed sport, and many Americans are excited for the upcoming games.

An Olympic Getaway

Snowboarders flying high above New Zealand

Snowboarders flying high above New Zealand

From the bottom, they look like butterflies” said a reporter last week. For many Olympic snowboarders, New Zealand is their home for the summer. Training for the Olympics takes a lot of work and training, thats why snowboarders spend their summer doing nothing but eating, sleeping, and boarding. The best of the best boarders come from all over the world to train at this one and only olympic sized half pipe open during the summer. We wish these crazy athletes luck in their upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics held in  Sochi, Russia.

Basketball: A National Sport for Bhutan

Basketball for the people of Bhutan is making progress toward becoming a national sport.

“But after decades of being a largely royal preserve, basketball here is about to have its breakout moment” said a reporter for the NY Times today. Basketball in Bhutan has typically been reserved for royalty, but recently there has been news about a formation of a national team led by a South Korean coach. Although Bhutan has a little percentage of its population standing over 6 feet tall, it will not be much like the basketball one would see in America but it will still be just as interesting to watch. Will basketball in Bhutan be a success?
