The suicide of Alexander McQueen, a star of international fashion, was a global shock. Alexander was known by his first name, Lee, and known for his iconoclastic work. He shocked the world with his suicide right before his runway show of his autumn/winter 2010 collection. Because lee was only 40 when he died, people started to examine the environment in which young designers are under massive amounts of pressure to be innovative and fresh with new designs and concepts for the future of fashion.
McQueen rose to fame in the 1990s; his collections were unique combined with intricate craftsmanship. Skulls, bones, and images of death were prevalent motifs in his works that gave of a sense of evil. McQueen skillfully brought nature into his collections through the folding of exotic prints and even fancy feathers! “Mr. McQueen had a love/ hate relationship with beauty”(NYtimes). However, most of his collections had a soaring, romantic softness that portrayed elegance.
