The Operations Management (OM) group within the Narendra Paul Loomba Department of Management is excited to offer a new special topics course, Operations Management Consulting, in Spring 2021. The course is primarily intended for seniors pursuing the BBA in Operations Management*.
The Operations Management Consulting course provides excellent training for careers in management consulting and business management.
This is a tremendous opportunity to learn the tools of the consulting trade from a former McKinsey partner and apply them to problems in business operations. In Spring 2021, the course will be offered on Tuesday evenings from 6:05-9:00 PM in hybrid format (meaning the class will not meet every week). Students should complete the 3000-level OM coursework (MGT 3500, 3710, and 3730)* before enrolling.

BBA students majoring in Operations Management may use MGT 4593 as the 3-credit Management elective, or they may use it as a substitute for MGT 4551 with permission from the OM student advisor, Professor Aditya Jain.
* A waiver of prerequisites may be provided if students have completed at least one of these three courses and have a recommendation from the professor of that course. Please contact the OM student advisor, Professor Aditya Jain, to request.
A full course description follows:
The course teaches students how to solve business problems and thereby improve profitability and operational efficiency of a client organization. In order to do that, they will be taught fundamental skills for leading change in the business operations function, including both in-house and external client perspectives. The focus is on the management consulting project lifecycle with emphasis on the following skills: client management, listening and problem-solving, professional communication and presentation, delivery and execution, teamwork, and leadership. Students will learn the nature and purpose of management consulting, the range and scope of an operations consulting practice, and professionalism and ethics in consulting. Throughout, student teams will analyze real consulting projects under the guidance of OM faculty mentors so that they can practice consulting skills.
