One Response to Group 4 Recommendations to the President

  1. Lisa Simon says:

The challenge for this exercise seems to have been in three parts. Read all the documentation, analyze the documentation, work with team partners to negotiate cuts sufficient to fulfill the mandate without biting your own unit in the ass. The actual presentation of the findings was a full-time mind-numbing task due to the need for constant checking to reconcile the numbers, but not otherwise a big deal. The big deal was that it was clearly obvious when a player had not read all the materials before making suggestions. This became the most frustrating part of this exercise for this writer. Some team members were given units that had a huge amount of “meat” to work with – academic affairs and student services, others had to work with very little information and/or small units. This second group had to produce some highly imaginative suggestions, researched for implementability, in order to stay in the game. I liked this exercise. The personalities of highly different team members cooperating or clashing mirrored real life interactions on any team. I would add that, just as in class, some students talk all the time and some observe and think, the results at the end of the day is what matters. (In my partially humble opinion.)
