Raven’s linebacker, Ray Lewis, suffered an apparent season ending injury against the Dallas Cowboys on October 14 in the 2012-2013 season. Team doctors speculated that this would be a season ending injury for the 17 year NFL veteran. Early in January Lewis announced that this would be the final season for him after being sidelined for a majority of the season. However, Lewis did not spend the last few games in his NFL career on the sidelines. Lewis made his reappearance at the AFC wild card game against the Colts. One may wonder how Lewis was able to return so soon after having his right triceps torn completely off the bone. Lewis may call it an act of ‘G-d’ and a miracle however, they may be a scientific reason behind this miraculous speedy recovery. The NYTimes reports “denying that he ever had taken a deer antler extract that contained IGF-1”. The speculations of Lewis’ illegal substance use couldn’t come at a better time, the league doesn’t have enough time to launch an investigation. One can only ask whether the timing was planned.
