Gold

Gold symbolizes wealth. The bright shiny yellow color makes people feel optimistic, rich, and happy. In China, most women have at least 5 items of gold jewelry and most men have at least 2. Collecting Gold can be a good investment and seems to have little risk. However, The Global gold market price goes up and down, influencing buyers differently, depending on their culture. According to publications in different geographic areas, such as Chinese Finance News, Taiwan News and the Wall Street Journal people in different parts of the world reacted to the recent sharp drop in gold prices differently. American investors reacted negatively and tended to sell off their holdings of gold. The reaction in China and Taiwan was just the opposite, when the gold price went down, the Chinese purchased 300 tons of gold in only 10 days.

The Wall Street Journal points that the drop in the gold price that “after ECB President Mario Draghi put pressure on Cyprus to sell its excess gold reserves to help fund the bailout and plug a 6 billion euro budget gap. He wrote to investors which the Wall Street Journal obtained, because of the recent collapse in gold prices investors buying into gold-related funds will go with the flow-that is, stay away for now.”

Different cultures think differently. This is true in journalism as well as in people reactions. When the gold price goes down, those journalists deliver information in the way that influences how people react, good and bad.

In Eastern cultures, such as China, people are usually very conservative, but when people see the price of gold drop they immediately purchase more, thinking that is the best time to invest. But in Western cultures, such as America, people tend to panic and follow the trend. When the price of gold goes down, they act just the opposite, selling off and causing the price to drop even more.

In China, people tend not to trust banks or paper money, because of bad experiences in their history, so they have always trusted gold to hold its value in the long term. In America’s people treat gold as any other commodity, so when the price drops they are afraid that the demand for gold may be down for a longer term while the Chinese, because of their history, believe the drop is temporary.

I think, that why the gold price goes down and encourage Chinese people to buy more, that makes the Chinese economy run well. The American people chose to sell or not to buy that impacts market, causing the American economy to decrease. It’s funny, but it’s real when the situation deals with money.

Immigration’s  process has been so well. According to the Washington Post, President Barack Obama’s political support group, Organizing for Action is stepping up its immigration efforts as the Senate holds hearings on overhauling the nation’s broken immigration system.  OFA will hold an Immigration, Day of Action on May 2 that will include rallies around the country and visits to members of Congress. The group is organizing nearly 250 phone banks, on Tuesday, to appeal for supporters to get involved. The goal is to mobilize OFA’s massive voter database, the same one that helped elect Obama twice, to support one of the President’s top legislative priorities. Obama is backing a draft bill written by bipartisan Senators that would secure the border and provide a path to citizenship for some of the 11 million immigrants in the country who are undocumented.

As reported in USA TODAY, the President will be hosting a dinner for the 20 women in the Senate. This group meets periodically but when the President heard that they were getting together at Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s house he invited them to the White House instead. The President has met with other groups from Congress but this will be the first time for this group. They are expected to discuss a budget deal and a comprehensive immigration bill. Sen. Klobuchar hoped that the recent attack in Boston wouldn’t be used as an excuse to delay work on an immigration bill.

Fox News reported that Sen Marco Rubio believes that immigration is important to our nation and that Americans have been generous in welcoming them. But he believes that the current immigration system is broken resulting in 11 million undocumented immigrants He believes that Republicans should take the lead in fixing the system. His plan would allow them to become permanent resident after a period of 10 years. They would have to submit biometric data to pass multiple national security and background checks ,  pay $2,000 in fines, pay taxes, and learn civics and English. Under his plan they would not be eligible for any federal benefits. We would also have to improve border security to prevent this situation from reoccurring.  We would also have to put in place systems to identify people who overstay their visas and prevent them from being hired.

The World Journal advises those immigrants who have become citizens to be sure to have their close relatives apply for green cards as soon as possible. The Boston bombing may influence Congress it make it more difficult for new immigrants to enter the country. If the law changes to a lottery, it may be more difficult for them to apply and only those who are highly educated may be able to obtain H1-B visas.

 Obama’s Immigration

     It seems like the immigration process is off to a good start. According to the Washington Post, a proposal has been made by an eight bipartisan team of Senators for a new class of worker visa for low-skilled workers, improved legal immigration and creation of a 13-year pathway to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants who are already in the USA. Labor and Corporation leaders have already agreed on a framework for the idea. After that, it would be very beneficial to those lucky immigrants who would have a real chance to work legally in America. I

     The President is working to solve the immigration problems efficiently. From USA TODAY by Aamer Madhani, Obama’s “political courage” and that of the 8 lawmakers who are working on a framework for overhauling immigration laws will uncover their plan later this month. Obama said that it is time to fix the broken immigration system and attract the best and the brightest that the world has to offer. It is time to give undocumented immigrants a chance for a better job and to welcome them to work and find a place live in America as their own home.  “I want to sign that bill into law as soon as possible,” Obama said. “Let’s get this done, and let’s get this done in a way that keeps faith with our history and our values.”

     The President showed his support for changing the immigration law by holding a swearing in ceremony for new citizens in the White House, something that no other President has ever done before. According to Fox news, 28 immigrants became U.S. citizens at a ceremony in the East Room of the White House in Washington. They are from over 24 countries, such as Afghanistan, China, Ethiopia, Mexico, Germany, Ukraine, and Peru. Thirteen were members of the US military. In the last 10 years, almost had 83,000 members of the US military have become naturalized US citizens. Allowing young people to join the military to become citizens is a good way for immigrants to become citizens. It is a good for themselves, their family and America. Obama said. “American isn’t just their bloodlines; it’s not just an accident of birth. It’s a fidelity to our founding principles, a faith in the idea that anyone, anywhere, can write the next great chapter in this American story.” This situation shows that the President is committed to helping immigrants, which encourages them to have confidence that  changes are coming.
            Our country needs the small businesses started by immigrates. UPI. The minimum-wage for those foreigners might get work visas for about 400,000 a year. But unions, and Democrats, want fewer foreign workers and higher pay for US workers in the program. “Our primary job creators agree something must be done because immigration is good for America and good for small business,” the Small Business Majority reported. Two-thirds of people agree that immigration is good for small businesses by establishing a qualified, skilled and stable labor force and new immigrant entrepreneurs drive more new business. The retiring workforce should be replaced by developing these young immigrants who will pay taxes. The new immigrants work situation is part of the business of America which it is very important.  

     Some of these immigrants are not interested in becoming American citizens. According to the World Journal, many rich Chinese have already given up their green cards because they have to stay half a year in US but their business is in China. Some of them said keeping American citizenship means they have to pay a huge amount of tax to the US. They also claimed that having an American passport doesn’t give them any advantage. Many wealthy people dream of sending their children to study overseas to obtain vanity degrees. America should consider how to attract these rich people and their children to immigrate here.

     America is a symbol of welcome to immigrants. It is composed of immigrants from all over the world, people looking for the American Dream. Because of the attraction that America will give them a better life than their own country. Since its founding in 1776, America has welcomed immigrants from all over the world. Congress should find a good way to help these new immigrants obtain legal documentation.. Let them get to work instead of wasting time on a long, drawn out process to become legal. America has been the top economic country because it has collected excellent people from all over the world. Right now the economy is climbing out of a crisis and the immigration law system is too slow. We wish the President could make a new system for immigration.

According to the Washington Post, on President Obama‘s fiscal agenda “What I want to try to do is make sure that we’re constantly focused on how we are helping American families succeed.” He had spoken on the phone to two Republican Senators and pushed them on immigration. I can see the President does care about immigrants, he thinks it is not easy; he needs to do something for them. The bipartisan Senate group is drafting a comprehensive immigration bill that would include citizenship for about 11 million illegal immigrants. It will probably come out next month

According to Fox News, the President won praise from two Republican senators on his efforts to overhaul the nation’s immigration system. That was a point in legislation from the Senate that mandates a secure border before the way from illegal immigrant to citizenship. Some Republicans were critical of the President after parts of his immigration proposal were leaked. Republicans accused him of not wanting to do in a bipartisan way.

USA TODAY reported that the proposal would let illegal immigrants become legal permanent residents in eight years. Those 11 million illegal immigrants could apply for a “Lawful Prospective Immigrant” visa. If passed, they could later apply for legal status for their family members who are living in their own country.

From World Journal-American dream, those illegal immigrants only need a legal paper to go to work without hiding. They also wish to visit their hometown. They came here illegally only because it is so difficult to get a visa to come here legally. They are still waiting the good news from the American government. As the matter of fact, they work much harder than many Americans; the best way would be to let them be legal, working and paying taxes.

This information from five difference publications welcoming immigrants to America has so many problems, the good thing is the government has starting again to seriously solve this problem which encourage smart, hard working people immigrants to the USA!
