War; Peterson questions
It is interesting the way you classified the individuals of the navy;
1. Would you say you were one the ‘trouble makers’ from the day you enlisted, or did you become desensitized to the dangers you faced over time?
2. Looking back, would you have done everything the same? Would you still choose to repair the FUDD’s and scopes? Or, would you have chosen a less riskier position?
3. You wrote that you didn’t realize you were suppressing feelings about the war for many years. How have you seen these emotions manifest itself into your daily life?
Cyber Attacks Are A Two-way Street continued….
Cyber hacking between the US and China has been in the news for several weeks; partly due to a 60 page report releases by the Mandiant cyber security company concerning cyber attacks originating from a Chinese military owned building. NBCNews.com chose to focus on the inevitable rise in Mandiant Stock due to their very detailed work., and recommendations from the New York times and Wall Street Journal. Although, hackers tried to undermine the company’s credibility by emailing a tampered version of the report, Mandiant has become a highly demanded cyber security company.
The New York Times has stuck to the perspective that China is solely responsible for the attacks on the US. Dutch Ruppersberger a democratic representative from Maryland stated that US companies lost almost $300 billion in 2012 due to trade secrets stolen from Chinese hacking. The times scarcely gives the Chinese a voice in the article, stating that the US is also responsible for hacking but has yet to provide substantial evidence of cyber espionage.
FoxNews.com reports on the series of cyber attacks between the US and China as a two way street with both nations being involved in cyber hacking. Fox actually portrays China as the victim of cyber warfare, furthermore, stating that China officials are actually ready to have a discussion with US personnel about cyber security. It appears that Fox would like to have an unbiased view on a situation regarding two powerful nations.
Npr.com does not take sides in the argument of who is responsible for the attacks, alternatively they have focused on what precaution and safety measures the US plans on taking to prepare themselves for an attack. The Huffington Post’s articles comes to the defense of the US, stating that Beijing still denies any claims of cyber warfare and states numerous reasons why this threat of cyber warfare should be taken seriously by the American people. Lastly, the Wall Street Journal reports that cyber attacks from China are at an unprecedented scale. The WSJ definitely supports the US and Obama administration for trying to strengthen cyber security policies. Similar to the New York Times, the WSJ servers were attacked by Chinese hackers labeling the Chinese as the aggressors in cyber warfare.
