I can’t say that i like this book but it got my attention. I don’t know how but this book really just got me right away, not cause i had to read it but because from the get go you just get these questions and your like “What? I want to know more.” This novel isn’t my favorite, not even close. I feel that Oskar is not 9 yr old, like i don’t think any 9 yr old will ever be like that. He is too old for his age, something isn’t right, it makes the story a mix of true events and some made up stuff, to me that is.
The one thing that pushed the book away from me is the same thing that drew me in. I couldn’t get past the fact that this little 9 yr old is roaming the streets and acting like an adult.
Foer really confused me with the switching of characters in some chapters. At first i was like “Are you serious!” then as the story grew i caught on but i can say i was lost for a while. This story really is a bizarre one, the kid goes through all this trauma and his grandfather does to, it’s like he was destined to have this whole situation. By the time the plot builds up all i can think of is what if his dad didn’t die?
Regardless of my interest in this book it obviously is a great read otherwise Baruch College wouldn’t choose it. Foer does a great job of a telling a story and getting anyone, in this case me, want to read more and not necessarily know why.
Don’t ask why, he just does! Hehe but on a serious note he is the only person who comes to mind as Oskars grandfather.
