Maria Castro, a Democratic Political, Business & Community Leader; previously elected as Delegate to the Democratic National Committee Presidential Convention for Congressional District 12, and to the New York State Judicial Convention for Assembly Districts 75 & 76 is looking for interns for the following Political Endeavors:
- DEFEND DEMOCRACY AND ITS CORE CORE VALUES, TO CONDUCT A “NYS VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE” REGISTERING ALL 18 YEAR OLDS AROUND YOUR CAMPUS, YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, NYC’S FIVE BOROUGHS, NASSAU, SUFFOLK, ROCKLAND AND WESTCHESTER COUNTIES.
- INCREASE OVERALL CIVIC ENGAGEMENT LEADING UP TO THE 2020 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.
- ORGANIZE COMMUNITY OUTREACH EVENTS TO ENHANCE 2020 CENSUS PARTICIPATION.
- PARTICIPATE IN THE ELECTORAL PROCESS AT FEDERAL, STATE AND CITY LEVELS THAT INCLUDES NYS ASSEMBLY/SENATE, JUDICIAL AND DELEGATE CANDIDATES.
Duration: This engagement will be for one or two semesters as permitted by the school, in order to receive credit. Once the above actions have concluded, we will engage in other civic minded events, promoting democracy and enhancing participation by all.
This is an UNPAID internship opportunity; however a rewarding lifetime experience, filled with “hands-on”, lessons learned, networking opportunities with NYS elected officials and members of the Judiciary. Modest stipends offered for meals and transportation for interns working on-site more than 6 hours per day.
Location:
- Manhattan: Covering Congressional Districts 10 & 12; Assembly District 76; NYS Senate District 27; Assembly District 75; City Council District 4.
- Nassau County, Long Island: covering Congressional District 4; NYS Senate District 9; Assembly District 20.
- Queens County, covering congressional district 14, NYS Senate District 13, Assembly District 34, and Council District 25
- Queens County, covering Congressional District 5; NYS Senate District 10; NYS Assembly District 31; and NYC Council District 28
Organizing Immigrant/New American Voter Groups within their respective origins/roots, ethnicities and language/dialect: African (Nigerian), Guyanese, Italian, Polish, Russian, South Asian and Spanish.
Schedule: There are both online and in-person assignments available 7 Days per week, anytime between the hours of 9:00am to 9:00pm, the minimum hours required depend on your school requirements and your availability.
