Generation Citizen is a national nonprofit organization with chapters at colleges across the city, including Baruch. Generation Citizen trains college students, called Democracy Coaches, to support the implementation of a student-centered, project-based Action Civics curriculum in local middle and high school classrooms. GC students enact local policy change on a community issue that they are passionate about, from policing to sexual harassment to gentrification, to many more. Democracy Coaches serve as mentors to young changemakers, gaining direct classroom experience and honing their advocacy skills and knowledge of local government and policy. They also receive a small stipend to cover travel and incidentals, and can apply for a competitive enhanced stipend.
Students interested in the Spring internship should fill out the online application by Friday, February 14th, 2020. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis, and the program itself begins with a training on February 29th.
