This week I met with my cousin to discuss my product. Before introducing my product, we speak vaguely and generally about what has been bothering him lately and about the ups and downs of moving out to a new apartment. One of the issues he has been experiencing is losing and forgetting his key and being late to his commitments because of this. After talking with him more, I recognized this as a real problem and moved on to asked about potential solutions – all of which he found unsatisfactory or against his minimalist lifestyle. He finds keychains to bulky and unnecessary. He does not like to carry bags and prefers to have as little in his pocket as possible. I mentioned a possible solution on the market – a key holder. He did not like the product because of its limited functionality. He would like something that would hold multiple personal items in one place (include his cash, ids, and key). When I should my cousin my product, he was immediately receptive! He liked the sleekness of the design and that every component was functional and useful for him. He said he would immediately try this product if made available to him because it would minimize what he needs to carry loose in his pocket. He stressed that the product needed to be portable and not bulky. He did not want a wallet that was bigger then his phone. He made a suggestion to swap the nail filer feature for a screw driver, as it will help him with he handy tasks. He needs the key feature to be easy to remove so he can swiftly take the key out of the compartment and open the door. He also suggested adding a flashlight, but stated that this was not necessary if this would make the wallet too bulky. Moving forward, I can proceed with my product but make the modifications he requested – keep it light and functional. My concern moving forward would be figuring out what materials to use to keep my wallet small and light, because if it becomes too heavy or big my cousin will not use it. I have to keep my cousin’s problem and minimalist lifestyle as the priority for design.
