Congratulations on submitting all the major assignments!
To start wrapping up this course, we have two big things to do. First, we are going to make our websites go public. Then, we are going to plan the final course assignment, presentations (worth 10% of your grade). Before we do these, however, we are going to take ten minutes to do the course evaluation. This is our program for today:
1. Evaluate the course
Go to https://enrollmentmanagement.baruch.cuny.edu/evaluations/
Take ten minutes to evaluate this course. All student evaluations are anonymous and instructors won’t see the evaluations until after they have submitted student grades.
2. Change the reading settings on your website
Go to Settings > Reading > Site Visibility > Allow search engines to index this site
Save changes!
Your website is now public. 🙂 Congratulations.
3. Reply to two other students’ introductory blog posts
I will assign two other students’ websites to each student. Each student must write a short response to the introductory blog posts on those sites.
4. Plan the final presentations
Your presentation will be a lightning talk. Lightning talks are informal, 3-minute / 3-slide presentations of your research project or website. The audience includes a diverse community of your professor and your classmates who are eager to hear about your research or website.
A lightning talk is a very short presentation lasting only a few minutes, given at a conference or similar forum. Several lightning talks will usually be delivered by different speakers in a single session, sometimes called a data blitz. Lightning talks are often referred to as ignite talks.
The format of this lightning talk will involve three slides which will be advanced by the speaker, who will share their screen. The topic of your lightning talk will be your research paper or your website.
Individually, take 15 minutes to outline your presentation. Think of what you might put on the three slides. Remember to include a link to your website on one of the slides, and during the lightning talk, be prepared to drop that link in the chat.
We are going to work in groups, in breakout rooms, to plan the presentations together. Explain what you’re planning to do to another student, and more or less what you’re going to say. Talk about what you’re thinking of putting on the three slides. Give each other feedback.
