1. What is your preliminary thesis or working research question (the thing about your topic you want to find out)? NOTE: Your topic must be well-phrased and formulated, rather than a petty observation about your topic. –
The current resources available that contribute to the well-being of a person would benefit from the legalization of psychedelic drugs because, despite the clear and apparent effects and potential abuse like any other drug, psychedelic drugs would help individuals with their mental health conditions and further the field of mental health science.
2. How do you plan on supporting your research? What types of sources do you think you will need? What sorts of obstacles might you run into when trying to conduct research on this topic? If you are undertaking a creative/hybrid route, consider how you’ll express your influences. –
I plan on using EBSCOHost, it’s a database that provides everything from news articles, scientific journals, books, and essays on almost anything, including this one. Considering how this topic has to do with the scientific, medical, and law communities, articles shouldn’t be difficult to find from both perspectives. Also, the fact that there are first-hand accounts of people actually feeling the effects of psychedelic drugs will be beneficial.
3. Why is this topic interesting to you? Why do you care about this topic? –
This topic is interesting because I personally don’t do drugs of any kind but seeing how family members that are prescribed drugs that create addictions and then aren’t provided the necessary help and attention to treat their condition led me to this topic. If there is a potential answer, why can’t it be studied so that the necessary people get the help they need? Also, seeing how drugs are being legalized and considered the norm in some places, I found it interesting that the legalization of psychedelic drugs, specifically for medical use, isn’t fully legalized yet.
4. Why should your readers care about this topic? –
Readers should care because there needs to be a conversation on distinguishing what makes a drug negative or positive and how these stigmatized drugs can be used for the benefit of people who suffer from deteriorating mental conditions and the potential it has in expanding scientific research.
