In the reading “Experiments of Life Writing,” by Julia Novak, she writes about fiction and non-fiction and mentions the similarities and differences they have. Throughout the reading, we can see that Novak is describing that in fiction and non-fiction writing, both of the genres somewhat bleed into each other. Non-fiction is a genre when something is written based on facts or something that has happened. Fiction is a genre when something is imaginary, made up, or not true. Fiction writing and non-fiction writing both help the other genre become much more interesting to read. This is because both of these genres can help each other emphasize the other genre which would help in sales of the books or movie tickets.

An example of fiction merging into non-fiction would be in an autobiography. In an autobiography (self-written biography of oneself), one may emphasize certain factors of their life or even make up a story to make their book more interesting for the readers. We can also see fiction and non-fiction being incorporated with each other in movies. One example would be war movies. In the Movie World War III, the non-fiction part of the movie would be that a World War III actually happened. However, there are fictional characters made up along with some war scenes. By doing this, the writer would make the movie more intriguing to people because it is an event that actually happened. Ultimately, we can see that Novak is establishing that fiction and non-fiction blend together to make the content more interesting for the viewers and or the readers.

  1. I agree that blending non fiction and fictional writing is more interesting. Something like WW3 is fictional, but it something that can happen. Events like these aren’t fictional in a sense, but in movies and such they are.
