Blog post #1

After reading the article ‘’The Facebook’’, by John Harris I noticed many interesting observations from the author. As in this article he argues that Facebook has diminished the barriers and changed many of the people’s reality.  For example Facebook has created this stereotype that a lot of people are trying to be like, presenting themselves as people they are not by giving false information. Also talking about the life they have which is usually created, because most of the people say they are traveling, having fun and enjoying life but the is most likely false. As instead they are probably home alone not feeling good and because they see other people having fun, they post the same thing to get more likes, comments and shares. As quoted by the author, ‘’tangled up in its success is the fact that people lie about themselves on Facebook, as they do on other social media platforms. In 2016, when the market research firm Custard surveyed 2,000 people in the UK, it found that only 18% of them said their Facebook profile accurately represented them, 31% said the face they presented on Facebook boiled down to “pretty much my life but without the boring bits”, and 14% said Facebook made them look “much more” socially active than they were’’. In reality Facebook has brought many people together but it has also taken away the truth about sudden things, as nowadays everybody has a Facebook account and it brings pressure to some people that think that if they are now in it, they are not part of the community.

I feel social media has affected life in a few ways. For example social media is something that everybody is in it, so if you are not part of it you might feel left out. But social media has its goods and bad when you see it from a business perspective it’s good to promote and get self awareness of businesses, It can also be seen as a faster form of communication sharing, information understanding from other people and a bigger interaction of communities. When I first signed up to social media I was probably 14-15 years old, I don’t really use as much and less i’m using for something beneficial contacting someone or for business purposes. Because I feel that the longer you use it for the more addicted to using it you get, there might be times you done have any use for it but use it anyways and procrastinates at times watching cat videos or anything that takes your time.
