Based on the first chapter, it is clear that she is retelling her experience in chronological order from her perspective during the process of writing her book. The first chapter is about her stay in a small island in Greece. She talks about her journey becoming a writer and she continues to explain that the readers will know her through her memories. “My memories know more about me than I do…” Although I personally believe that memories can be hard to trust because of the lack of evidence and high possibility of falsified memories. It is very often that memories are clouded, but I guess it works for her.

She was distracted and struggled as a writer and she moved to the Hydra House to focus on her writing. She shows her struggles with herself and her internal conflict. Although the house wasn’t much, it became her inspiration as she realized her passion to write. This experience helped her find herself as a person and a writer.

I can imagine a Hydra House of my own. It would have the perfect view of nature w clear, big glass windows that is as big as doors. It would be warm and cuddly inside with fluffy blankets and a giant bathtub. I find myself to feel the most “me” when I am out able to feel the fresh air and sun. The giant bathtub would make me feel like I am swimming and I love the feeling of water when you’re under. Being under cold water makes me feel as if I am on top of my stuff as it gives me a sense of pause in my life. When you are underwater, it is cold and silent. It opens me up and makes me feel happy without making me feel lonely even if I am physically alone. It would help me clear my mind as I am away from worldly distractions and chaos in my life.
