Life Is But A Dream Post 12

In Beyonce’s Documentary, “Life is but a Dream” is a chance for the viewers to get a better understanding on what goes on during a celebrity’s life. Beyonce expresses a lot about her hidden side that the audience would have never otherwise ever seen. Throughout the documentary she informs us of how her life is not really all that perfect. For example she talks about the miscarriage she had for the first time she got pregnant. But because of this even when she had her daughter Blue Ivy Carter it was such a happy moment for her. She also has a lot of breakdowns helping us understand that she is just like the rest of us and she has her ups and downs too. The way she did this documentary showed us how she likes her music to be natural and it is a place where she can be herself, she does no’t like anybody interrupting her when she is recording. She only gave the viewers a small glimpse of her private life but that was enough for us to understand her a little better than before.

In the New York Times article “Another Cog in the Machinery Divahood” by Alessandra Stanly, she talks about how the documentary does not actually show the real life of Beyonce. She argues that the documentary only showed parts that they were comfortable showing to give her a better reputation in the eyes of the audience. In the article it states “She makes the point over and over, usually into the camera of her laptop, which she uses as a diary. “Stop pretending that I have it all together, and if I’m scared, be scared, allow it, release it, move on,” she tells herself”. I think that the author of the article believes she is acting just to make herself appear better because she says she just keeps saying the same thing over and over again.
