In the Documentary “Life is but a dream” Beyoncé is trying to express through this documentary her life story, and her private self. She goes on to say how she lives her life daily, and the way her relationship with her father was on edge, because they were mostly focused on her stage work, rather than her personal life, where she then made the decision to become her own manager. She talks about her creative process, the editing in her Videos, the singing, the choreography for the moves she does, and what goes through her mind each step of the way. She talks about her life throughout her marriage, and her unfortunate miscarriage. Throughout this documentary she gives a basic understanding of the life of a celebrity. How she is seen, how she sees others, and how Beyonce personally would like to be seen. Not just a body singing and dancing on stage, but of a regular person, just like everyone else. In Alessandra Stanley article “Another Cog in the Machinery of Divahood”, she compares Beyoncé’s documentary to that of other pop celebrities, such as Madonna or Whitney Houston. Stanley also makes the Argument of how the Documentary doesn’t exactly depict the entire truth of beyoncé’s life, but of a fraction that she wants her fans to see. I do agree with her statements, simply because if I was in a celebrity shoes, I’d do the exact same. Why would I want to give a bad impression to my fans about me? I  Would write as much as I can, true or false in order to achieve a greater image for my fans. With the obvious factor that  Beyoncé is the one who directed her own documentary, of course there will be some bias in the movie.  I think she does a fantastic job expressing herself throughout the documentary, and it seems like the most authentic a celebrity can act upon.

  1. I think that while it is obvious that she will portray herself in a greater light as it is her own documentary, she still puts herself out there by revealing her private life. This was something she has not previously done, so as fans we can appreciate that she gave us some form of content.

  2. I feel like the bias that was in the film could have lessened with having other important people in her life discuss their relationship with her and how they felt about the impactful moments that were in the film.
