Blog Post #3

There are many locations/platforms we can write on. Nowadays, a lot of people write digitally like I am right now. We can write on a Word Document, Google Docs, Notes, Pages, etc. I believe that they all are private, with some programs being more private than the others. Notes and Pages are the most private, in my opinion, because no one else can see the type of content written unless you share it with someone. I think Word Document is less private because you have to log in to OneDrive, which means that the company can have access to your documents. However, people can use the privacy setting to change certain things, such as removing private information. Google Doc is private, but some factors can make your writing public. This is because Google will be getting access to the content on your document even if you did not share the text with anyone. I write on my agenda every day, and I can assume that it is probably the most private location/platform for me. This is because the content on my agenda is personalized to my life, and the only person that has access to it is me. Another platform I write on is Snapchat. I use Snapchat to rant on whenever I feel like I’m facing a midlife crisis. This is somewhat both private and public because I get to choose whoever gets to see my posts, and usually, the only ones who have access are my close friends. However, since it is something that is shared with other people, it can become public because some people like to go around and tell others about someone else’s business. But at the same time, Snapchat has this feature when it notifies the person who posted know if someone has screenshotted their post. The most common place I write on is Messages and Messenger. Although they both do the same thing by delivering messages from one person to another person or a group of people, I think that Messages is private and Messenger is public. I believe that Messages is private because it’s a default app on most people’s phones, and no one else can access those messages unless you have the phone. I think that Messenger is public because it is a messaging app developed by Facebook. This means that to use the app, you will have to log in to text others. This is what makes Messenger public because many Facebook accounts can get hacked into, and there were many instances where a lot of my friends have been hacked, and their accounts sent links to their friends on Facebook.

  1. I agree that messenger, which is an extention of facebook is definetly not private as Facebook as a company can access those messages if they wanted. Iphone messages, which has it’s own faults, offers more privacy in a sense that it is simply a messaging feature on the phone.

  2. It was interesting that you choose platforms such as Word Documents, Google Docs, and Notes as your platforms to write. It opened my eyes up to the different perspectives that people have regarding the question.

  3. I think its interesting you think messages is private while messenger is public, I never thought about it that way. But you are write since we do have to log into Facebook to use messenger, in a way that is strictly Facebook use and could be hacked, just like many other apps.

  4. Wow I never even thought about how Messenger and iMessage would be that different and I believe that includes for Snapchat and how the “personal” chat on Snapchat isn’t really private.
