In the Introduction, Of A House of my Own tells the story of a Latino novelist from Chicago who starts to think of where she feels inspired. Sandra Cisneros takes an unique approach to her autobiography by using her different essays and writings from 1984 -2014 to tell the story of her life. You can tell even from the piece of writing she includes in Chapter 1 about her time in Greece that she developed a lot overtime and changed quite a bit. She also describes her time during the festival in Mexico, about the culture of the people there. How reed castles were used to show extraordinary shows for the town residents.
In Chapter 1, she thinks she will go somewhere with other Latinos but she comes to the decision that she will go to Greece. She says that she needed to get away from her Chicago Nemesis, who she makes out to seem like her enemy. We soon find out the nemesis is her boyfriend in Chicago who tells her they are in an open relationship which she says is for him to be able fulfill his “needs” but not hers. She tells her story of how beautiful Greece is, and how the walls looked like they were all artfully crafted and cut. You can tell that she loves the town she’s in and it definitely inspires her. She also talks about how she distracted herself from her Chicago Nemesis by having flings with various Greek men. One of them including a man who she stayed with when she first got there, but it quickly dies. She talks about her various flings with different men, and how she would fill their hunger so she could get back to her writing and the computer she borrowed to finish some of her work.
I found that her story in ideals of love was interesting, as she mentions this battle she faces against her”nemesis” which was an odd way of describing an ex.
I agree she uses a lot of terms that are not necessarily sugar coated but are odd ways of describing different people or things in her life.
