Frederick Douglass tries to enlighten the audience on how slaves were treated inhumane due to dehumanization. During slavery people were treated as they were a property made to be managed by there owner. They had no rights and were forced to work with no compensation just to go home and most of the time starve. The way they were treated helped using slaves as bargaining chips for trades and much more, they were basically considered to be a form of currency. Frederick Douglass wanted white people to feel what they were feeling about all of the injustice going on. He wanted them to understand the pain that they have to go through every day. The way they were treated took a hit on the population’s beliefs and values on slaves.

White slave owners would separate families at birth making them parentless and forced straight into an intense no paid work force. Also they would take away their simple rights which any human on the globe should have. This created such a terrible environment for colored people that they felt that they had no value and that the way that they were treated was fair. They also had no basic knowledge, for example how old they were. Douglas said it was not fair that he didn’t have the same rights as the slave masters kids, he was separated at a young age and was enslaved. 

I have seen many dehumanization videos on social media websites. For example since this pandemic started I have seen asian people getting beat up for not wearing a mask, but the ironic thing was the people assaulting this man were not wearing a mask themselves. We have also seen the United States blame China for this virus instead of putting in prevention methods to stop this virus from spreading and making it as lethal as it is today. Every time there is an event like this people get assaulted for something that is not in their control. Also in North Korea people have been dehumanized for years but there’s nothing we can do because they’re under a dictatorship. The North Korean people fear the dictator.
