In the book “A House of My Own:Stories from My Life” by Sandra Cisneros, it talks about her experience throughout the book writing process. In the first chapter it starts off where she lived in Greece and her experiences there, then she says how her experience in Greece led her to become a writer. I think the collection of essays that are put into the book are about her life experiences from Greece all the way to the United States. She also says “ And everywhere I went, the poems or stories or essays I typed, with their mismatched typefaces and consistent typing errors, reminded me, like passport stamps, where I had been” I think this shows how she learned different things from different areas and maybe this is one of the reasons her writing was a huge success, adding to her skills little by little.

In Chapter 1 one the significance of Hydra House for Cisneros was like she was dreaming and she finally had reached her dream house. She had moved to the Hydra House to escape all the distractions stopping her from writing. The house was basically a drug for her, it was a way for her to escape reality. She also said it was a way for her to get away from herself, which might mean the way she has changed herself with society affecting her from the beginning.

If I had to imagine my own Hydra house it would be a house surrounded by acres of land. On this land there would be a lot of trees surrounding a pond with a warm temperature outside. I would want this house to represent a stress free life, but it would be a place for me to motivate myself to better myself. It would be a place that would make me less lazy and more productive. I would also be able to find my purpose in life, what I want to accomplish right now. I am stuck between what I want to learn in school. It would be a place where all of my immediate family all could live together and have our own spaces at the same time. I would make sure my house was modern with new technology such as solar panels for power so we are self dependent. Also water wells so we don’t need to be dependent on government water pipes. I would like it to be a place where we could forget all the problems we are facing in the real world, just a place where you could enjoy yourself and the people you love.
